On Sunday, 4th of December 2016, three thousand Assyrians from Chicago found their way to designated polling places in order to participate in the new elections of the Assyrian National Council of Illinois. "We included five highly educated young American-born Assyrians on our list, to better serve our community," Mr Shiba Mando the newly elected President of the Assyrian National Council of Illinois told SBS Radio.
