Experts say AI could have significant impacts on democracy and trust.

There are no specific laws around AI in Australia.

With a federal election looming, deputy executive director of the Tech Policy Design Institute Zoe Jay Hawkins said it's "too late for major legislative reform for Australia" before we head to the polls.

Ultimately it's up to voters to decide what is real and what is fake when it comes to AI-generated content in election campaigns.

Spokesperson for the Australian Electoral Commission Alex Morris said to "be alert but not alarmed".

"If you see something that you can't quite guarantee the accuracy of, if you're not sure it's quite right, don't share it before you've done the checking."

In this episode we ask what Australians can expect from AI in the lead up to the 2025 Federal Election.
