Dr. Maryam Joseph, a Geriatrician specialist and working at Fairfield Hospital, said that confirming even one infection with COVID-19 is a serious issue, given that the symptoms of this virus may not always appear on the person, as well as the speed with which it spreads and its long adhesion to surfaces.
Doctor Joseph confirmed that the authorities are trying to track down new infections that have emerged after easing some of the restrictions in both New South Wales and Victoria, to find out their source and how they are transmitted to society.
She added some new cases in Victoria were linked to people from abroad and who were quarantined, transmitting the disease to individuals working in places who did not act appropriately to protect themselves from the infection. Other cases, referred to demonstrations, while large families gathering and meeting in one place, makes another reason for the outbreak.
Doctor Joseph said that it is necessary to get tested. It is available for free. She stressed on commitment to the basic health instructions, even if the restrictions were eased. Allowing public gathering, for example, does not mean ignoring physical distancing or not practicing good hygiene.
People abiding by these instructions, in the past were necessary to control the epidemic and we hope that people will continue to abide by these instructions for the safety of all.
