Almost fifty years passed since the first meeting to establish the Assyrian sports and cultural club took place in a mall room in a Sydney suburb of Randwick . Today the club has it's own building in Fairfield and has plans to expand further.
Mr Ashur Yako is the president of the new committee of the club. He told SBS that the club's aims and objectives are to get members of the Assyrian community to look at the club as a hub to gather , socialise and spend good time together. The club is aiming to establish youth group and give them guidance to create projects that will benefit the Assyrian youth. The club is planning to expand it's premises to build an extension to be used as sports and recreation facilities.
Mr Jako asserts that the only reason he come's back into the running affairs of the club is of his belief in serving his Assyrian community as much as he can.
