Russian lawmaker and journalist Pyotr Tolstoy, running on ruling United Russia party's ticket in the elections, should issue an apology for his unacceptable comments that his country will buy out Bulgaria, the deputy head of Bulgaria's main ruling party Tsveta Karayancheva said. Pyotr Tolstoy, who is one of the most recognised faces of state-run Pervy Kanal, said, as his country was going to the polls, that Russia "will buy the entire Bulgaria".
"We have already purchased half of its coast", added Tolstoy in an blitz interview for Bulgarian National Television.
Russian entrepreneurs and civil servants own properties along the Bulgarian Black Sea, while Russian visitors are a key component of Bulgaria's tourism industry.
United Russia, which won the legislative elections by a landslide, is presided by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev and strongly supports Russian President Vladimir Putin.
