Leading independent drug research, policy and education organisation the Pennington Institute is calling for state and federal government action to help reduce the number of overdose deaths resulting from the misuse of Pregabalin.
It comes amid skyrocketing use of the drug.
Pregabalin is a medication usually taken by people with epilepsy or nerve pain.
In Australia, Pregabalin is sold under the brand name Lyrica.
Carol Bennett is the CEO of Pain Australia and says the drug can be very helpful.
