Education and youth minister Alan Tudge wants 160,000 people offshore who already have student visas to come to Australia before the start of the 2022 academic year.
It follows the government's recent announcement it will lift travel restrictions for more than 200,000 fully vaccinated international students, skilled migrants and refugees from next Wednesday [[DEC 1]].
Changes will also be made to international student visa settings, including protecting post-study work rights and extending the temporary graduate visa from two to three years for those doing masters degrees.
The government is also expecting another 50,000 people to apply for student visas.
