Jenolan Caves in the Blue Mountains World Heritage Area (about three and a half hours from Sydney) are the first caves in the world to be lit by electric light for visitors to explore.
Stepping in Jenolan Caves is an inexpressible experience, sending the visitors to another planet, or in Aladdin’s Cave of Wonders.
Formed over millions of years the stalactites hang everywhere from the roofs. The water is insanely clear, looking like an optical illusion.
The caves were first discovered in 1903 and all explored by candlelight.
The original name of the caves, given by the indigenous Gundungurrra is - healing waters. They travelled great distances to bathe in the underground pools.
