Orthodox Bulgarians in Australia celebrate Easter

This year's Easter is different in the context of the state of emergency and the coronavirus


There are over 250 million Orthodox Christians around the world who celebrate Easter each year.

Apart from Bulgaria, the other countries celebrating are Greece, Serbia, Belarus, Georgia, Cyprus, Macedonia, Romania, Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Russia, Moldova, Ukraine, Lebanon and Ethiopia.

The Easter holidays are a favourite for the Bulgarians and in 2020 the dates are between 17 and 20 April.

Unfortunately, this year's holiday will be different in the context of the state of emergency and the coronavirus.

Orthodox Bulgarians in Australia also celebrate Easter, but because of the restrictions, going to church becomes a virtual experience, as the Easter service at St. St. Cyril and Methodius in Melbourne.

Father Alexander Popov from Melbourne and  Father Todor Popov from Adelaide mark Easter with festive messages and greetings.
