Thousands of people have gathered outside Melbourne’s Shrine of Remembrance on 23 October 2020 in protest of Melbourne’s harsh lockdowns with demonstrators demanding Daniel Andrews’ resignation.
The protests come ahead of what is traditionally one of the biggest days in the city’s calendar, the AFL Grand Final, which was held away from Melbourne for the first time in more than 120 years.
The protesters were heard screaming “Free Victoria” and “Sack Dan”, while a number of people were tackled to the ground by police.
Listen to the story shared by a protester. Her elderly father has become a victim of COVID-19 restrictions imposed on Melbourne.
Here is what the protester said:
“I have no doubt many more elderly have succumbed in this manner indirectly rather than the ones dying directly form COVID-19.”
