Out of 58 million 86 percent went to the polls on election day

Over 51 per cent of the 58 million Turkish voters said "yes" to the ruling Justice and Development Partys constitutional amendment package in a tight race to decide on whether to shift to an executive presidential system.

Protests broke out across Turkey as President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told a European observer mission to "know your place" after they criticised Sunday's constitutional referendum.

After Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan claimed victory in the referendum that could give him sweeping powers, the opposition in Turkey said they will call for a recount of over 35 per cent of the votes over doubts of alleged violations.

The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry voices hopes that after the referendum Bulgaria and Turkey will be able to focus on the development of bilateral relations based on the principles of equality, respect for the national interests of the two countries, good neighbour relations and mutual trust.

Premier-to-be Boyko Borisov, leader of Bulgaria's GERB Party, announced Bulgaria could be a balancer for the future interconnection between the European Union and Turkey.
