Politicians who do business in Bulgaria shoot themselves in the foot

Plovdiv businessman and Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) strongman in that city, Georgi Gergov, resigned from the BSP leadership body at a special national council meeting on April 22, following pressure for him to quit over his reported role in mediating a meeting between Prosecutor-General Sotir Tsatsarov and Sasho Donchev - founder and CEO of the private gas company Overgas Inc..

Bulgarian Socialist Party leader Kornelia Ninova moved to the BSP National Council meeting to relieve Georgi Gergov from his post of member of the Executive Bureau on account of Gergov's involvement "in events of high public and media interest that gave rise to many questions to the party".

Ninova threatened that if Gergov does not leave the Executive Bureau, she will resign.

Later in the same day Gergov lodged his resignation "so as not to divide the party", but noting that "no good goes unpunished".
