Minister of Energy Temenuzhka Petkova announced the three companies participating in the tender for a contractor of the Belene nuclear power plant(NPP) in Bulgaria: Rosatom, Framatome SAS-France and GE Steam Power.
Meanwhile, The European Commission confirmed that a new notification is needed if Bulgaria wants to resume the construction of Belene NPP.
These include the changes to the project, the development of safety standards and the amendment of the legal framework of the Euratom treaty, which has changed considerably and has been enhanced since 2007 when the Commission issued a favourable opinion for the construction of the nuclear power plant.
In 2012, the government of Boyko Borissov stopped the Belene project, but in 2018 the third cabinet of the same Boyko Borissov resumed it. What were the reasons?
