A growing group of Chinese youths are embracing the ancient roots of Chinese culture through fashion.
While many others her age are trying to squeeze into their jeans, Jia Lan and her friends are laughing as they try to help her with her Ming Dynasty belt.
It might sound like fun, but, for this particular group of friends, fashion is a serious matter, a symbol of their newfound pride in China.
Wearing ancient Chinese clothing known as Hanfu, they could easily be mistaken for extras on a historical movie set.
But they are not.
They are what Jia Lan calls "Hanfu revivalists."
The Han are the largest ethnic group in China, but, for 400 years, the traditional colorful robes were consigned to museums.
Now, the 24-year-old is working to sell and promote the ancient garb by wearing it every day.
