Australian Olympic Committee (AOC)officials say the athletes were taken for questioning late on Friday and had been fined 10,000 reais each.
Australian Chef de Mission, Kitty Chiller says the athletes weren't at fault and the A-O-C would be providing help to them and their families.
Though Ms Chiller says the A-O-C will conduct its own investigation into how the the athletes' accreditations came to be tampered with.
"I think that it's very important to note that the athletes were definitely not at fault and have and will continue to provide as much support and counselling to them and their parents and that has already commenced."
