The Australian Federal Police have reportedly raided the Home Affairs department in Canberra over undisclosed leaks of information.

In a statement on Thursday afternoon, the AFP confirmed it had conducted a “number of activities” after a referral came from the department itself on August 30.

The matter related to “unauthorised disclosures”, the police said.

The alleged raids come after a series of leaks from the department over Peter Dutton’s use of his ministerial powers to grant au pairs tourist visas in two cases in 2015, after Border Force officials had decided to deport them.

Photographs on social media showed police vehicles outside a Home Affairs property in the centre of Canberra, on Constitution Avenue.
