綜合新華社和中新網報導，5月14日早上，四川航空3U8633航班在从重庆飞往拉萨时，驾驶舱右座前风挡玻璃突然破裂脱落。由于失压，驾驶舱气温迅速下降到零下40多摄氏度，儀錶盤大量損毀。

在民航保障單位配合下，机组成员靠目视和手动操作，成功将飞机从32000英尺（约9800米）的高度备降到成都双流机场，所有乘客平安落地，备降期间右座副驾驶面部划伤腰部扭伤，一名乘务员在下降过程中受轻伤。此次航班故障备降中，共29名旅客感觉不适。當天下午2点05分，除了部分选择放弃继续飞行的乘客，3U8633航班的50余名乘客改签3U8695航班飞抵拉萨。

空客中国公司已经指派技术团队，为由中国民用航空局主导的事件调查提供支持。
