A crowdfunding campaign to raise money for a man who appeared on the ABC's Q&A has raised more than $18,000.
Darren Storrar, who works for the minimum wage, questioned Assistant Treasurer Kelly O'Dwyer on Monday's program about the tax break the government is proposing for people earning between $80,000 and $87,000.
"I've got a disability and a low education, that means I've spent my whole life working for minimum wage," he said on Monday night.
"You're going to lift the tax-free threshold for rich people.
"If you lift my tax-free threshold, that changes my life. That means that I get to say to my little girls, 'Daddy's not broke this weekend, we can go to the pictures'.
"Rich people don't even notice their tax-free threshold lift. Why don't I get it? Why do they get it?"
In Ms O'Dwyer's response she used the possibility of a cafe buying a $6000 toaster as an example of how company tax cuts would benefit small businesses, prompting confusion and ridicule among the community.

A crowdfunding campaign called "Buy Duncan Storrar a Toaster" sprung up as a result and has already raised more than $18,000.
The campaign, created by GoFundMe user Samuel Slammer Fawcett, used Ms O'Dwyer's comment as an inspiration to raise money for Mr Storrar.
"Duncan seems like a good bloke and every little bit of cash goes a long way," the campaign page says.
"We reckon he deserves a bit of a helping hand so we've decided to buy him a new toaster.
"[Six] grand oughtta cover it. And if he has a little bit left over, maybe he can take his kids to the movies or something."
The campaign page says the creators plan to reach out to Mr Storrar to distribute the money.
