Police are reportedly to be given the power to demand identification from anyone at a major domestic airport, even those who aren't passengers.
News Corp Australia is reporting the move is to stop suspicious travellers from travelling, and would allow authorities to order members of the public to leave airports.
Qantas CEO Alan Joyce says he'll support any government-recommended measures to improve traveller safety.
"Our position has always been that safety and security are our top priorities and if the experts recommend that there are changes to how we process passengers through the domestic airports, through the international airports, we take that advice, we implement it and we believe that safety and security should be the top priority for every airline and certainly they are for us."
