The federal government is again expressing confidence it can work with the incoming administration of US President-elect Donald Trump.
Speaking to reporters in Sydney Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull also said he was confident the deal, struck with President Obama, to resettle some of the 1,600 people housed in offshore detention on Manus and Nauru, would still go ahead.
Turnbull:"Despite considerable encouragement from you and your colleagues I've managed to avoid running a commentary during the course of the US election and I'm not going to embark on becoming a US politics commentator now."
Reporter:"Are you worried that Trump might scuttle the resettlement deal that you've got with the US?"
Turnbull:"Er, it's a very good arrangment and we are confident that it will continue through the change of administration."
