Foreign buyers of residential properties in Western Australia will pay a seven per cent surcharge from January 1, which will raise about $120 million over four years, after legislation passed through state parliament.
The surcharge brings WA in line with every other state and will allow the McGowan government to fund its freeze in TAFE fees.
In a statement on Tuesday, Treasurer Ben Wyatt took a swipe at the WA Liberal and Nationals parties, but praised the Greens and One Nation for "showing a more mature and constructive approach to fixing the state's finances".
