Local media have described the incident as an apparently random knife attack which took place as the child was cycling towards a subway station with her mother.

The girl's mother says her daughter wasn't able to ride her bike on the pavement and she initially thought the man was coming to help her daughter.

She says she tried to pull the man away when he started slashing her daughter with a cleaver.
