Nadal is the only single-figure seed left in the tournament after second seed Novak Djokovic was knocked out by Belgium's David Goffin.
Djokovic follows top seed Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Dominic Thiem, Marin Cilic and Tomas Berdych out of the tournament in recent days.
Nadal now faces 10th seed David Goffin while 11th seed Lucas Pouille of France faces the 15th seed Albert Ramos of Spain in their semi-finals.
