The federal government is due to launch a taskforce which may look into banning the Australian 100 dollar note.

It's part of the governement's attempt to retrieve billions of dollars in undeclared small cash payments.

A taskforce will be set up to examine whether to stop circulating the 100 dollar note.

Assistant Finance Minister Kelly O'Dwyer has told the A-B-C, the measure will be revealed in Monday's (19th) mid-year budget update.

" The task avoidance task force will be announced in MYEFO. In terms of the money that we are able to get from it, that's the whole purpose of the tax avoidance taskforce that has been set up to see how we can better crack down on this particular problem."
