Last week, China stated that those from Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan can apply for resident permits in mainland if they have been there over half a year. 

CNBC describes the resident permit as a 'Carrot and Sticker' strategy that Beijing use for a stricter boarder control. 

Some Hon Kong residents are concerned over a upcoming trend of migration to the mainland among younger generations. 

However, Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong speaks highly of this new policy, which is not adored by Taiwanese politicians.
