A coroner will investigate how a South Korean man drowned on the NSW South Coast on Christmas Day.

The 46-year-old international student went missing while snorkelling at Lake Conjola on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

His body was pulled from the water before 3pm by family and bystanders.

Emergency services were called to the scene at 2.40pm to treat the rescued man.

Police said despite efforts made to revive him, he was declared dead at the scene.

The Korean national was in the country on a student visa, police said.
