Is Taiwan an independent country?

Today is Double Ten Day, the National Day of the Taiwan, the day commemorates the start of the Wuchang Uprising of October 10, 1911 , which led to the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in China and establishment of the Republic of China (ROC) on January 1, 1912. SBS Mandarin reporter Amy Chien-Yu Wang asked Chinese Australians whether they believe Taiwan is an independent country, given the People’s Republic of China (PRC) views the island as one of its provinces.
