At least 58 people are dead in the worst mass shooting in modern American history - an act described by President Donald Trump as pure evil.

Around five hundred have also been wounded after a man opened fire on a Las Vegas music festival from a hotel room.

The shooter - identified as 64-year-old local Stephen Paddock - killed himself before police blasted the door open of his 32nd floor room of the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino.

Nevada Sheriff Joseph Lombardo has told reporters Mr Paddock acted alone and is not believed to be connected to any militant group.

Police say they have also located 62-year-old Marilou Danley, who was wanted as a person of interest.

The Australian woman, who has been named as the girlfriend and roomate of Mr Paddock, has been cleared of any involvement.
