The leader of France's far-right National Front party, centrist Emmanuel Macron, conservative former prime minister Francois Fillon and hard left candidate Jean-Luc Melenchon are locked in a tight four-way race.

If no candidate wins more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two will advance to a run-off vote on May 7.
