A measles alert has been issued after a Melbourne man contracted the disease following a trip to Southeast Asia.
The man, aged in his 20s, is being treated in hospital after returning from Bangkok, Thailand, on May 4, Victorian health authorities say.
He was not infectious during the return flight but might have been while visiting the Noble Park Aquatic Centre, the Westfield Fountain Gate at Narre Warren, the Goodlife Health Clubs at Chelsea Heights and Dingley Village, and South Melbourne's Chez Dre cafe between May 8 and 13.
Deputy chief health officer Dr Brett Sutton says people who visited those areas during that time might still develop symptoms.
"None of these locations need be avoided now as there is no ongoing risk of acquiring measles there," the health alert released on Wednesday said.
Measles can often begin with a runny nose, red eyes and a cough followed by a rash and fever.
It can lead to pneumonia and other serious complications and people who fall ill often require hospitalisation.
The case follows a spate of infections linked to international flights going into Melbourne between March and April.
