A team of US and Australian researchers carried out a trial on over 1000 patients to see if it could detect ovary, liver, stomach, pancreas, oesophagus, bowel, lung and breast cancer at an early stage.

The test showed a success rate of about 70 per cent.

The team is now carrying out research to see if it can identify the people who have the disease, before they develop symptoms.

Doctor Nickolas Papadopoulos, who led the study, says it offers great hope.
