Australia officially has its new leadership team with ministers being sworn in.

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull presented his new-look frontbench to the governor-general on Monday at Government House in Canberra.

It includes 23 cabinet ministers, the most since the Whitlam government in the 1970s.

Federal MPs will be in Canberra for less time this year than the lengthy eight-week election campaign.

They will return to the capital on August 30 for what is the first of seven parliamentary sitting weeks.

Parliament will wrap up for the year on December 1.
