Born in 1980, Chinese tattoo artist Jie Chen has been reportedly working as an tattoo artist for about 13 years, and now she runs a boutique studio at Sanlitun, an area containing many popular bar streets and international stores in Beijing, where tattoo is getting more and more popular among younger generation.

Her unique tattoo artworks by applying Chinese 'ink and wash' brush painting and "freehand" calligraphy style, and using designs and elements such as lotus, fish, plum flours and bamboo in Chinese traditional art, made her one of the best internationally-known tattoo artists of the Communist nation.

Chinese traditional painting appreciates various shades of color of the subject in relation to a fixed source of light, as well as profound philosophical meanings expressed by simple but symbolic subjects.

With 228k followers on Instagram, Chen has become an international sensation and attracted many overseas clients that some reportedly flew thousand miles to having their tattoos done by her, as she's making the thousand-years-old Chinese arts a new cool in the world of tattoo arts.
