China has called North Korea's neighbours in a bid to maintain the peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula.
It comes after North Korea fired two suspected powerful new mid-range ballistic missiles (Wed),
North Korea is banned by U-N resolutions from any use of ballistic missile technology.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying says North Korea's actions should not be interpreted as defiance towards China.
(With translaton) "I think it is an over-interpretation to consider the actions of North Korea as defiance directed at a certain country. As we have said many times, the nuclear issue of North Korea has its complicated root causes, and therefore requires a comprehensive means to resolve it. The peace and stability of the peninsula serves the interests of all - and we have been calling for all the parties to make joint efforts in this regard. As for China, we have been using various occasions to openly and fairly elaborate our position on this issue to both North Korea and the rest of the world."
South Korean President Park Geun-Hye has denounced North Korea's actions as "reckless", and says the country is heading towards self-destruction.
