One person has died and at least five pedestrians have been seriously injured after a truck crash on Botany Rd, in Sydney's inner south.

Police said the crash occurred about 7.45am between Bourke St and Epsom Rd.

It's understood a B-double veered into northbound lanes, struck several pedestrians and then smashed into a power pole, a bus stop and a building.

The truck was carrying bricks at the time of the crash and the driver was trapped in the crushed cabin for more than 45 minutes as emergency services worked to pull him free.

NSW Police Force said one pedestrian died at the scene, while a further six suffered serious injuries during the crash.

Paramedics sent 12 ambulances and a helicopter to the scene.

Botany Road has been closed and traffic diversions in place. The crash also cut off power to the area.
