SBS Chairman steps down

The chairman of the SBS board, Nihal Gupta, has announced he will step from the role he has held since October, 2014.

SBS Chairman Nihal Gupta has announced he will step down from the role.

In a statement Mr Gupta said "personal family reasons" were behind his decision to step down from Wednesday.

"It has been a privilege to chair SBS and I wish the organisation all the best for the future," he said.

SBS board Deputy Chair Bulent Hass Dellal said the board "understands and fully respects Mr Gupta's decision".

"We thank Mr Gupta for his valuable contribution to SBS and wish him well," he said.

Mr Gupta has been the SBS Chairman since October, 2014 alongside Deputy Chair Dr Dellal, Managing Director Michael Ebeid, Peeyush Gupta, Patricia Azarias, Jacqueline Hey, Daryl Karp, Dorothy West and William Lenehan.

Dr Dellal will act as chairman until the federal government appoints a new chairperson.

The SBS board of directors is appointed by the federal government.
