Parts of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania have felt the brunt of the weather system.
Emergency services in Victoria received more than 1000 calls for help, as winds of more than 100 kilometres an hour lashed the state.
Heavy rain caused some roads to be closed in Tasmania, while 40,000 homes were left without power in South Australia after fierce storms on Tuesday.
Damaging winds are also forecast for the south and southeast of NSW.
The front is expected to weaken as it moves east on Wednesday.
