Stranded Chinese crew given more supplies

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority says it's close to resolving wage issues that have kept a cargo ship stranded off Queensland for six weeks.

It's calling for the crew to be granted humanitarian shore leave because they're running out of food.

ITF assistant co-ordinator Matt Purcell says the crew is surviving under difficult conditions.

"This crew in particular getting less than two dollars an hour to work is just incredible in this day and age. That unfortunately is the plight of many of these modern seafarers when the ship has no ITF agreement, no legal contracts and they are just paid peanuts basically. They are well below the international requirement of wages set by the International Labor Organisation."
