Sydney housing prices fell for the second month in a row in December, as the housing market's recent strength starts to wane.
Capital city home values were flat in December, dragged down by a 1.2 per cent fall in Sydney, as well as similar sized falls in Adelaide and Canberra, the CoreLogic RP Data Home Value Index shows.
Home values rose 7.8 per cent in 2015, aided by gains of more than 11 per cent in Sydney and Melbourne, with the only other capitals to post rises being Brisbane and Canberra.
CoreLogic RP Data head of research Tim Lawless expects home price growth in 2016 to be more sedate than in recent years but says it will get some support from strong population growth.
"We would be surprised if dwelling values fell materially before conditions start to level," he said.
