US President-elect Donald Trump has strongly dismissed CIA claims that Russia tried to help him win the US presidency.
In a television interview with Fox News, he says allegations that Russian hackers aided his campaign are ridiculous and are being promoted by Democrats angry about losing the election.
(Trump:)"Once they hack, if you don't catch them in the act they're not going to catch them. They have no idea it's Russia, or China, or somebody. It could be somebody sitting in a bed some place. I mean they have no idea.
(Reporter:)"So why would they put out this story that the Russians wanted you to ...
(Trump:)"I'm not sure they put it out. I think the Democrats are putting it out because they suffered one of the greatest defeats in the history of politics in this country."
But senior Republicans have joined with Democrats to call for a full investigation into what they say are claims which should concern every American.
Over the weekend it emerged the CIA had found that individuals, linked to the Russian government, provided the Wikileaks website with thousands of hacked emails from the Democrats' campaign.
In the same interview Mr Trump suggested the US should not be bound by the One China policy.
The policy has provided the foundations for US-China relations for decades.
"I fully understand the One China policy but I don't know why we have to be bound by the One China policy unless we make a deal with China having to do with other things including trade. I mean look we're being hurt very badly by China with devaluation, with taxing us heavy at the borders when we don't tax them. With the building a massive fortress in the middle of the South China Sea which they shouldn't be doing. And frankly with not helping us at all with North Korea. You have North Korea and you have nuclear weapons and China could solve that problem and they're not helping us at all. So I don't want One China dictating to me."
