The impasse is expected to affect hundreds of thousands of federal workers.

Republican House Speaker Paul Ryan says the shutdown is causing great pain.

Republican and Democratic leaders are expected to renew negotiations today (Sun) in the hope of restoring government financing before Monday.

At issue are Democrat demands to include certain measures, including protections for young undocumented immigrants, in any short-term spending legislation.

Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer says President Trump is an unreliable negotiating partner.
