Vic Premier, PM discuss offer to settle refugees

Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is facing renewed pressure over the fate of a group of Australian-born asylum seeker children and their families.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews, has spoken with the Prime Minister, offering to house and support the group of 267 asylum seekers in his state.

"I spoke with the Prime Minister this morning and reiterated to him that Victoria stands ready to provide all the services and support to those children and their families. I take the view that this is the right thing to do."

The families are facing deportation to Nauru after a High Court decision on Wednesday cleared the way for their return.   

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk and ACT Chief Minister Andrew Barr have also thrown their support behind Mr Andrews.
