Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull is the first Liberal leader in a decade to be regarded as more competent in education and health than their Labor counterpart
According to a Newspoll published in The Australian on Tuesday, voter confidence in Opposition Leader Bill Shorten's ability to manage education was 38 per cent, compared to Mr Turnbull's 42 per cent, while Mr Shorten's health rating was 41 per cent compared to the prime minister's 42 per cent.
Voters also rank Mr Turnbull as more capable than Mr Shorten in managing the economy, 58 per cent to 22 per cent, and on issues of national security, tax reform, and asylum seekers.
The only area Mr Shorten was considered more competent in was industrial relations, ranking 40 per cent to Mr Turnbull's 39 per cent.
Newspoll results released on Monday showed the coalition and Labor tied at 50 per cent in two-party preferred terms.
