Woman charged over $360,000 ticket fraud

A woman will appear in a Sydney court after allegedly defrauding hundreds of overseas students of more than $360,000.

A woman has been charged in Sydney over an airline ticket scheme which saw hundreds of overseas students allegedly defrauded of more than $360,000.

Police say the 24-year-old was arrested in Petersham on Wednesday afternoon and is scheduled to appear in court on February 3 charged with dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.

Detectives began investigating after receiving several complaints from across Sydney about the alleged fraudulent selling of airline tickets via a social media website targeting overseas students.

Around 240 people were affected, with the value of the tickets involved estimated at over $360,000.
