The ThunderGo program was first proposed by associate professor at Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong, Benny Tai Yiu-ting, also the Occupy Central co-founder, in February 2016. The goal is to secure a half-seat in the 2016 Hong Kong Legislative Council Election. Some 40,000 voters cast their ballots in the polls, leading to the election of some pan-democrats and indigenous factions, despite doubts about the end result.
