Community Interview: China navy will join Exercise Kakadu off Darwin

Exercise KAKADU aims to build and strengthen mutual understanding and interoperability in the maritime domain.

Defence Minister Marise Payne has announced China's navy will join twenty-six other nations, including the United States, in the Exercise Kakadu, the military exercises off Australia north coast later this month. It is the first time that China participates in the Australia’s premier multilateral naval war games. Professor John Wong, Emeritus Professor of Modern History in University of Sydney, said the participation is not necessary reflecting the troubled relationship of Australia with China improved.
