The states have hit back at the prime minister over his call to fast-track gas projects to tackle a shortage that's even worse than feared. Malcolm Turnbull has singled out the New South Wales government for not moving quickly to ease restrictions and approve the Narrabri Gas Project. The prime minister has received two reports showing the expected shortfall in gas for 2018 is more than three times larger than projected earlier in the year. He has threatened to trigger gas export controls if exporters fail to make more supply available locally.
