Hong Kong will face rapid population ageing and shrinking labor force in the coming 50 years, according to latest population projections issued Friday by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government. Under the population projections released by the Census and Statistics Department (C&SD), the Hong Kong Resident Population is projected to increase from 7.34 million in mid-2016 to a peak of 8.22 million in mid-2043, and then decline to 7.72 million by mid-2066.
