According to the Alzheimer’s Disease International website, every three seconds someone in the world develops dementia, two out of three people globally believe there is little or no understanding of dementia in their countries, so, how much do you know about dementia?

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, dementia is the second leading cause of death of Australians contributing to 5.4% of all deaths in males and 10.6% of all deaths in females each year.

In 2016 dementia became the leading cause of death among Australian females, surpassing heart disease which has been the leading cause of death for both males and females since the early 20th century. So, what is the early signs of having dementia? How can we diagnose the disease and how can we treat dementia?

In today's "Elderly World", we invited the Professor of Medicine at University of New South Wales and Geriatrics, Dr Daniel Chan, to explain to us the mystery behind dementia.
