China has cremated the body of imprisoned Nobel Peace Prize laureate Liu Xiaobo after his death this week, amid international criticism of Beijing for not letting him travel abroad as he had wished. The Government of the city of Shenyang in north-eastern China, where Mr Liu had been treated for advanced liver cancer, said in a briefing the cremation took place early on Saturday morning (local time) in a ceremony attended by family, including his wife.
